This morning, @Choosesligo was taken on a preview exhibition tour of the Model (https://www.themodel.ie/) in advance of the Model reopening again on 23 July '20.
It has been a long few months since Covid19 kept us locked up in our own houses, but nothing is nicer than getting out again and admire art in an actual gallery. One of the aspects of the visit was to showcase how the Model will operate under social distancing guidelines. A well thought out plan was put in place where the Model was adapted to allow visitors to enjoy art while maintaining appropriate social distancing . All around the exhibition are little yellow feet highlighting where you should stand to get the best view of the art on display while still maintaining your distance from fellow visitors.
When the doors open up again on the 23 July, there are two major exhibitions. The first one is Jack Butler Yeats "A Thought of Sligo" which focuses on his work and how it was influenced by Sligo and the West of Ireland. The second exhibition is called "The Sea Around Us" , bringing you a multi-sensory experience of visuals and sound with as theme the Sligo shoreline and our relationship with the sea.
Entrance to the Model is still free, but you will be asked to check in upon arrival. The new Model opening hours will initially be Thursday to Saturday between 12pm and 4pm. Where this is the first phase of the Model reopening, further days and times will be added in due course. Also take note that entrance into the Model is from the Mall where exit will be via Connaughton Road.
