Hazelwood forest

Back to Forests

How to get there:

Take the R386 to Dromahair. At approximately 5 km from Sligo turn right and travel 1.5km to car park.

Facilities:

Ample car park area at half moon bay
Picnic area

Landscape:

Broadleaf species (Beech, hornbeam, lime, rhododendron, laurel) most of them planted by the Wynne family 250 years ago.. In the forest are the ruins of the Korean video tape manufacturer Saehan Media and also the ruins of Hazelwood house, a Georgian mansion build in 1722 by the Wynne family. The house was designed by Richard Cassells who also designed Leinster House and Powerscourt House.

The car park at Half Moon bay is fantastic for feeding the ducks and swans, although the seagulls can be fast taking the bread.
