Description
Deerpark forest is a beautiful forest which is located close to Sligo town. Within the forest is the Deerpark or Maghernamush Court Tomb which was erected during the Neolithic period around 3000BC.
The court tomb is called such a way as the burial chambers opened off a semi-circular or oval court, usually at the front of the monument. The court was usually used as a site for rituals linked to the burials. The deerpark court tomb is unusual as the court is in the middle rather than at the front.
