Description
This trail leaves the car park as a forest road. After 200 meters, the trail turns up the mountain and turns into a singletrack. The singletrack rises over a few hills until the Court tomb is reached which is situated on the right.
The Deerpark court tomb dates back to the 3rd millenium BC and is considered the finest example of it's type in the country. There is also a stone circle close by with a cashel, wedge tomb and souterrain in adjoining lands
After the tomb, the path makes a 90 degree turn to the left and follows a stone wall. It is at this point that the best views are obtained towards Leitrim, Knocknarea and Ox Mountains and Lough Colgagh.. From this point, the path turns back towards the carpark as forest road and becomes more gradual.
It is a very nice trail, especially during a nice summers evening when the sun is setting. The sun normally sets behind Knocknarea and results in some fantastic picture opportunities
Distance: 3.5km
Ascent: 50m
Visitor facilities: car park, picnic area
