Description:Welcome to Sligo’s oldest heritage, award winning pub. Where Thomas Connolly's heritage pub was first licensed in 1861, its history goes as far back as 1780 when a smaller pub was established in Holborn Street. At the time, the Markievicz Road end of the pub was originally living quarters. The pub was established during a time when maritime trade flourished along the Irish Atlantic coast . Ships would visit Sligo harbour delivering rope, linen and tea from Europe. During this time, there was once a grocer's shop at one end of the pub, popular for making sugar, selling tea and bottling whiskey. Thomas Connolly's storied past includes a visit from Charles Stewart Parnell during the pub's early days plus Thomas Connolly himself becoming Mayor of Sligo in 1890. These days, Thomas Connolly is best known for their warm welcome, their famous pint of stout, regular live music and relaxing atmosphere. Thomas Connolly is well renowned for their vast range of Whiskeys, gins and craft beers on offer. In the pub there’s an ever growing range of over 200 premium Irish whiskeys and scotch with regular whiskey tasting events being organized. Their premium gin collection also continues to grow with over 30 unique flavours to choose from. For the craft beer drinker, a great selection of local and national Irish crafts beers on draught are available. It is worthwhile sampling their own Thomas Connolly IPA and Red Ale which both come on draught. And that's not all, with a range of European red, white, rose & prosecco wines by the glass or the bottle , there is plenty to choose from. They believe in choice and so gluten-free and non alcoholic drinks are well stocked. Don't feel like an alcoholic beverage? They will happily prepare a fresh ground or speciality coffee of your choice. When it comes to live entertainment, Thomas Connolly is the place to be. With a regular music schedule which encompasses Swing Jazz, traditional Irish, Trad Fusion and acoustic sets from some of the region's most recognised resident musicians. |
