Beach-bumming and sea swimming
Visitors to Sligo can build castles on Blue-flag beaches (https://www.choosesligo.com/sligo-beaches.html) . If you are after a more active visit to the beach, then you can participate in open water swimming. There are plenty of open water swimmers which meet-up in Rosses Point during the spring and summer months. Guided walking tours of Sligo
A free guided tour runs throughout the summer months (June until the end of September).
The tour will take in the historical places of Sligo, but also places of musical, sporting and cultural interest. It commences at Sligo Tourist Office in O'Connell Street at 11:00am. Check with Sligo tourist office for more information. |
The Model
The Model is one of Ireland’s leading centres for contemporary art. You can enjoy contemporary art exhibitions by international and Irish artists. The Model is also home to Sligo,s municipal art collection, The Niland Collection, shown on a rotation basis. Admission to all exhibitions is a suggested donation of €4.00

Free entrance to OPW Heritage sites
In Sligo, every first Wednesday of the month of each month, you can visit Carrowmore Megalithic cemetery and Sligo abbey for free. Carrowmore Meglithic cemetery is Ireland's largest megalithic cemetery and one of Europe's oldest ones.

Enjoy a bus tour along the Wild Atlantic Way
The Locallink bus route #982 from Sligo to Rossnowlagh is the bus you need to take if you want to discover the Wild Atlantic Way. Following a coastal route, you get to see the fabulous Sligo coastline.
And it doesn't cost an arm and a leg either, the minimum fee for an adult return ticket is €3 and maximum is €12 |
