In 1904, it was part of a famous stand-off between the post master and the Gaelic League, which gained national and international headlines when the post master withheld letters addressed to a priest in Irish. Soon, a heap of post arrived in Riverstown all written in Irish. Riverstown was also home to Ireland's first post woman, Katie Hannon. |
