Tourist Office

Sligo's official tourist office is located in O'Connell Street, Sligo's main shopping street just a few minutes walk from the train and bus station .
Opening hours:
Monday to Friday: 9am - 5pm
Saturday: 10am - 4pm
Sunday: Closed

Currency

The currency is Euro. One euro is divided in 100cent. Bank notes are issued in dominations of 5 , 10, 20 , 50, 100, 200 and 500 euro. Each note has a distinctive colour and size

Customs and VAT

VAT/ Sales tax is already included in the price of your purchase and is charged at 23% for goods purchased. Under the retail export scheme, non EU residents are entitled to claim their VAT/sales tax on goods they export from the EU.
VAT rate for the tourism section is set at 13.5%

Credit cards

Credit cards are widely accepted in Sligo. They can be used in restaurants, hotels, cafe's and stores. They also offer a convenient way of withdrawing money from ATM's which are open 24/7

Opening hours

Shops in Sligo are allowed to stay open on Sundays. Opening hours vary though, and a lot of shops close on a Monday. Shops tend to stay open later on a Thursday and Friday.

Thursday - Friday: 10:00 - 20:00
Saturday: 10:00 - 18:00
Sunday: 12:00 - 18:00

WIFI

Where most hotels and restaurants offer free WIFI, there is now free public WIFI in Sligo town centre.

Electricity

Standard electrical voltage in ireland is 230V, nominal at 50Hz. The plugs used are 3 pin IS411 type plugs which are used in the UK and Ireland.

Smoking

in Ireland, smoking is illegal in an enclosed place of work. This means that you are prohibited from smoking in restaurants, pubs, shops, public places or on public transportation. Pubs and restaurants tend to provide sometimes a designated smokign area outside the premise.

Travelling with disability

In Sligo, efforts are done to make wheelchair access better. In a lot of public places (post office,banks,...), access has been provided. The older shops might not have easy access or elevators installed, so we advise you to call upfront to the place you want to visit.
