Cairns Hill Forest Walk

Back to running/walking trails

Description:

Carns Hill is situated on an elevated site close to Sligo Town.  The start of the walk is at Sligo's water treatment plant "Foxes Den".

From here, you have fantastic views towards Sligo town, Benbulben and Sligo Bay.

Carns Hill forest includes ash, beech, birch, larch, oak, scots pine. The beech trees can be up to 100 years old. The ground vegetation is abundant as well and exists out of ferns, grasses, blue bells, ...

There are 2 short looped walks in the forest, the cairn loop which is going to the highest point of the forest where an ancient cairn is located.

The second loop, "the mixed woodland loop" goes around the forest and takes in some of the views toward Sligo.
Both looped walks allow you to link up with the Cleveragh park walks and trails
