Description
The Bricklieve mountains/hills overlook stunning Lough Arrow. What's special about the mountain range is that they are dotted with ancient passage tombs known as the Carrowkeel Tombs.
The Bricklieve mountains highest hill is Carrowkeel which is 321 meters high.
At the trailhead is a small car park. From here, you can walk along the stunning valley trail which brings you towards the Carrowkeel Tombs. One of the large tombs you will see is 5000 years old and is aligned with the setting sun on the summer solstice.
There are 21 passage tombs in the complex, all of them located at different positions on the hilltops. The Carrowkeel tombs are protected National Monuments and are considered one of the large passage tomb cemeteries in Ireland
