Description
Aughris Head Beach is a remote, rugged, and breathtakingly scenic stretch of coastline, reached by following the beautiful Aughris Head looped walk. Exposed to the full force of the Atlantic, the beach can be wild, rough, and windswept — but on a calm, sunny day, it transforms into pure paradise.
The shoreline is mostly made up of stones, with small caves tucked into the rocks, adding a sense of mystery and adventure. The beach slopes steeply into the ocean, making the water dangerous for those unfamiliar with the area, but simply sitting on the stones and taking in the dramatic scenery is worth every step of the walk.
Above the beach, perched on the headland, are the remains of an ancient promontory fort, a reminder of how long this coastline has been watched and cherished. Between the sweeping views, the raw Atlantic energy, and the sense of history in the air, Aughris Head Beach offers one of West Sligo’s most memorable coastal experiences.
Beach: stones,pebbles

Swimming: No lifeguard - only recommended on a really calm day = experienced swimmers only (with partner)
